Job opportunity at CORC: Postdoc in techno-economic analysis of CO2 capture and conversion technologies

The Novo Nordisk Foundation CO2 Research Center (CORC) is looking for a postdoctoral researcher that contributes to early-stage screening of negative emissions technologies and concepts, e.g., by techno-economic analyses.

Novo Nordisk Foundation CO2 Research Center develops novel technologies to capture, convert and resuse CO2

The postdoctoral researcher is expected to start by focusing on techno-economic analyses and life-cycle analyses of a selection of the technologies currently under development at CORC, but will have the possibility of fine-tuning the research as the project progresses. Internal reports and high-quality scientific publications are to be delivered as a result of the analyses.

The technologies being developed at CORC are at a very early stage, so the aim is:

  1. to derive elemental relations between laboratory-based properties of technologies and future implications in terms of cost and energy and materials consumption,
  2. to assess the potential of these technologies to achieve a Gigaton-scale,
  3. to identify barriers in terms of energy and material consumptions, environmental impacts, fundamental limits for efficiency, etc. that prevent their scalability.

The postdoc position is for 2 years but has the possibility of extension under positive evaluation. We expect that the initial 2-years phase of preliminary and comparative analyses opens new and relevant research questions that will be subsequently investigated.

The postdoc will be affiliated with the Systems Modelling Group and have the opportunity to engage with the 4 PhD projects related to system analysis and modelling which are expected to start in the Fall 2022.

The research groups associated with the System Modelling Pillar publish in high-impact journals, ensure a collaborative research framework, and are committed to using open-science methodologies.

The postdoc will be supervised by Assoc. Prof. Marta Victoria (Aarhus University) and Prof. André Faaij (Utrecht University).

Qualifications

We expect that you have a PhD in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Energy Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Economics or similar and previous experience with techno-economic analysis.

A good understanding of the energy system technologies and economics will be positively evaluated. Further we expect you to possess good writing and communication skills in English and to show initiative and be able to collaborate in teamwork. Experience with Python and/or other programming languages, open-software development, and project managing with Github will be positively evaluated.
